RAPE on this week #116Stories..

Updated: Aug 31, 2023

On 17th July 2017 at 10:28, a devastated mother called the Helpline #116 from Chimala, Mbarali. She reported that her daughter, Mary, who was only 11, had been raped four times by a 66 year-old man. A Helpline counselor took her through all the steps she had to take to ensure her daughter received justice. Mary was taken to a police station for a PF3 and then to a hospital for treatment and to get the doctor's report for evidence.

The doctor confirmed that there had been penetration. Mary had quite a number of bruises and fresh wounds in her genital area but thankfully; there was no sign of an STD infection. We had a case! The first hearing was set for 27/07/2017 and was later adjourned to 09/08/2017 for a second hearing. As the case was in court, the counselor stayed in touch with the mother to encourage & advise her on how to help her daughter heal. Mary was traumatized by the incident and needed counseling so we referred the case to a Social Welfare Officer in Mbarali.

On 17/08/2017, the jovial mother called #116. Justice had prevailed & the perpetrator had been sentenced to 30 years in prison. #116Stories #SimuliziZa116
